The background trimming was originally approved for the
3rd Civil Affairs Group on 16 December 1968.
It was redesignated for the 98th Civil Affairs Battalion on 18 May 2007.

All edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) golden yellow border.
The beret flash was approved on 23 May 2006.

(.32 cm) yellow border, the background bisected by a vertical line displaying
 the left half purple and the right half white; overlaid with a chevron shape
1/4 inch (.64 cm) in width and bisected along the same vertical with the
colors reversed, white and purple.
The beret flash was approved on 23 March 2004.

On an oval-shaped embroidered device 1 3/8 inches (3.49 cm) in height and
2 1/4 inches (5.72 cm) in width edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) yellow border,
the background bisected vertically; left side purple, right side
white, overlaid with a chevron shape 1/4 inch (.64 cm) in width throughout,
 the apex touching the top inner border and bisected there along the same
 vertical with the colors reversed, white and purple.
The background trimming was approved on 23 March 2004.

device with a semi circular base 2 1/4 inches (5.72 cm) in height by
1 7/8 inches (4.76 cm) in width with a purple cross 3/16 inch (.48 cm)
 thick over the quartered shield and an emerald colored shield 1 3/4 inches
(4.45 cm) in height and 1 3/8 inches (3.49 cm) in width overall.
All edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) black border.
The beret flash was approved on 23 January 2006.

A yellow, scarlet, white and black quartered oval shaped embroidered device
1 3/8 inches (3.49 cm) in height by 2 1/4 inches (5.72 cm) in width with a purple
cross 3/16 inch (.48 cm) thick over the quartered shield and an emerald colored
oval 1 3/4 inches (4.45 cm) in width and 7/8 inch (2.22 cm) in height overall.
All edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) purple border.
The background trimming was approved on 23 January 2006.

The beret flash was originally approved for the U.S. Army Reserve Special Operations Command on 31 Jul 1990. It was redesignated for
Civil Affairs and Psychological Operations Command (Airborne) on 19 Dec 1990.
